Just as Community Library's collections and volumes of materials continue to grow inside, we also have quite an extensive collection of things growing outside! Have you seen our gardens?

Kids In Dirt Society, or KIDS, has just completed it it's tenth year in 2008. Boys and girls from 8 thru 13 years participated in this Library- sponsored program during the summer.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make the KIDS garden a success.

Community Library gardens in Salem is the place to be!

All of the various gardens on the entire library grounds, which include the trees, shrubs, and water sources have met the requirements for our certification in the National Wildlife Federations Backyard Habitat Program. We are pleased to set an example and provide first-hand information about an earth-friendly and environmentally-supportive ecosystem.

The Community Library gardens are successful because of the dedicated and talented gardeners who return each year as a team. Many thanks to all our volunteers who have helped throughout the years.

There is always something to do in the K.I.D.S. garden or the other perennial beds on the library grounds. More dirty hands are always welcome - please join in the fun! For more information, please contact LeeAnn Briese at 262-843-3348.

Yes, it's true -- Community Library has so much to offer inside and outside all year. It's a great place to be!

There are many opportunities for adults to enjoy gardening at the library in Salem. Experiment with gardening ideas, fulfill Master Gardener volunteer hours, and meet other gardening enthusiasts.

We would also like to brighten up our Twin Lakes facility. There is a small patch of uncared-for ground and the possibility of adding outdoor planters or window boxes. Do you have 1 hour? 6 hours? Every day? Or once a week? Whatever the amount of time you are willing to give, we can use you. In all the projects creativity is welcomed!

Come out and experiment - be creative. Extra hands and shared gardening experiences and ideas are always welcome in all our gardens. We are looking for other garden enthusiasts to join in our gardening escapades. Both novice and experienced gardeners are encouraged to join us.
